If you are unable to seek the assistance of a doctor, it is advised that you at least use your best judgment when buying and using weight loss products, like colon cleanses and diet pills.
The Three Simple Steps to Fat Loss
January 26th, 2010Its unbelievable but being overweight has now moved from a social nuisance and domestic embarrassment to an official disease.
The American Heart Association has announced obesity a dangerous epidemic and a major risk for heart disease. More than 70% of US adults are overweight and that figure is rapidly increasing.
But by following three simple steps in your everyday life you do not have to become one of the above statistics. They are easy to follow without time constraints and don’t require a complete lifestyle change. These three steps are:
1. Strength Training – Nowadays you do not have to live in a gym to put on functional muscle. Short High Intensity sessions performed once a week is all that is required to elevate the metabolism for total fat burning.
2. A Small Decrease in Daily Calories – Diets don’t work (everybody knows this by now) but by decreasing your daily calories by a small amount, the weight loss is body fat alone and not lean tissue and water that is associated with crash diets.
Remember fat accumulates on the body over a long period of time so it must come off slowly.
3. More Incidental Activity – Instead of driving try walking, walk instead of taking elevators or escalators; take the stairs and so on. Just keep moving through out the day.
Lets have a look at the Three Steps in more detail below:
Strength Training
Between the ages of 20 and 70 the average person loses one quarter of their muscle mass. Running, cycling or other aerobic sports will not prevent this loss.
This is very disturbing because the muscles are the engines of the body and every pound of muscle burns 100 calories every day.
By adding just 10 pounds of functional muscle to your body, you will burn off 60 pounds of fat over the next year.
Providing you take in the same amount of calories, it will keep burning those extra pounds year after year! The amount of fat the body can burn is directly related to the lean muscle your body has.
If you don’t perform weight training to maintain your muscle tissue, you will lose half a pound of the fat burning tissue per year after the age of 20 years. In simpler terms the more functional muscle you have on your body the more fat you will burn up.
Small Decrease in Daily Calories
For years now, we have been told to use dieting to rid the excess fat from our bodies.
The trouble with this concept is that the low calorie restricted diet would throw the body into starvation mode, with the body holding onto the fat and using precious muscle tissue for energy.
This would then lower the metabolism causing greater muscle loss and when the diet is broken the unwanted fat would not only return but actually increase because to the lowered metabolism.
The way around this is to cut your daily calorie intake by a small amount of calories only. This will stop any starvation mechanisms from clicking in.
You can do this by making up a seven day eating plan and writing down every thing you eat for the week, and then work out the calories you have eaten with a calorie counter. Divide this figure by seven and you have your daily calorie value.
Decrease daily calorie value by a couple of hundred calories per day and no more. This will generate slow weight loss and the majority will be fat loss only. The daily calories should be consumed during the day with small frequent meals.
The calories should come from a balanced diet (no fad diets please) with the required amount of micronutrients, vitamins and minerals. As well as containing the required amounts of fibre, fat, protein and carbohydrates.
More Incidental Activity
Fat is burned from the body when cells oxidize to release energy in the form of exercise. When the exercise is done slowly to moderately then the majority of energy is taken from the fat stores.
The key to effective aerobic training that burns off maximum fat is long-term consistency not intensity. It doesn’t matter if you run a mile, jog a mile or walk a mile you will burn exactly the same amount of calories.
The best exercise by far for the purpose of fat-loss is fast walking either indoors on the treadmill or outdoors. Other aerobic activities are the treadmill, bike, climber or any other training gear found in or out of the Gym.
Start with 100 minutes of controlled incidental activity per week increasing this to 200 minutes a week or more. In all other activities try to move, move, move.
Try parking the car further away from your destination so you can walk the extra distance, hide all your remote controls so you have to get up and change the channels manually. These all help burn those extra calories and body fat from your frame.
So go ahead, by incorporating these three simple fat loss steps into your everyday life you will not have to change your lifestyle or be subject to time constraints.

Low Carb Diets That Work- Don’t Make This Bad Mistake With A Low Carb Diet
January 26th, 2010I must confess that I have always been a fan of low carb diets that work. My personal training clients are constantly coming to me for advice on diets, and frequently I will suggest a low carb diet. Unfortunately, some of them don’t heed ALL of my directions while on the diet. The result being that they experience frequent plateaus, and inconsistent weight loss. I generally discover that most of them are making this one big mistake!
During the course of just about any diet, there are periods of time when an individual is following the plan, and not losing any weight. These frustrating periods of time are commonly referred to as a plateau.
Most plateaus are caused by fluid retention, particularly if the intake of sodium (salt) IS NOT reduced while on the diet. Water is quite frequently retained right beneath the surface of the skin.
On most low carb diets that work, dieters tend to lose a great amount of water weight during the initial stages of the diet. Generally, during the first 2 weeks or so. The reason for this fluid loss is that carbohydrates act as a “dam” for body fluids. When carbohydrates are drastically reduced, the body “dumps” water that had been retained in body tissues.
However, after this initial loss of water weight, dieters notice that their weight loss dramatically decreases. In fact, their weight may increase a bit! This is caused by the body’s need to take back the water that was lost during the initial stages of the diet.
The mistake that these dieters generally make is not drinking enough water when starting the low carb diet. This is also true of low carb diets that work. Dieters MUST drink at least 8, full glasses of water daily, to curtail fluid retention.
It is interesting that consuming more water PREVENTS water being held. This occurs because the kidneys are working “overtime”, constantly releasing water.
Real Facts About Weight Loss Pills
January 25th, 2010Weight loss pills have always been surrounded by controversy. There are many misconceptions about these medications, specifically with regard to their efficacy and safety. Nevertheless, approximately 50 million people are still using diet pills in order to lose weight. Here are some real facts about weight loss pills that you should know before trying them out.
Efficacy
The first question most people ask when choosing a diet pill is, “Is it effective?” In general, prescription weight loss pills are effective, as these drugs have undergone scientific research and have been proven to result in significant weight loss. However, the exact effects of these pills still vary from person to person. Also, most weight loss pills promise to help you lose weight in a fast and easy manner. Don’t be fooled with these promises. Losing weight requires time and effort. Most experts believe that effective and permanent weight loss is actually gradual and slow, usually losing 0.5 to 2 pounds a week. Also, it is important to remember that although weight loss pills can enhance the amount of weight you lose by up to 10%, not all diet pills will work for everybody. Different weight loss pills act in different ways; it is necessary that you find the right weight loss pill for your eating habits and lifestyle in order for you to lose weight.
Safety
Before taking any weight loss pill, it is important to look into the safety profile of the medication. Any medication can cause adverse effects, especially when they are not taken properly. Some weight loss pills can cause mild side effects, such as diarrhea and fatty stools; others, however, have been linked to more serious adverse reactions, such as increased blood pressure and life-threatening allergies. It is also important to remember that not everyone can take weight loss medications. If you have any medical condition, it may be best to see your doctor first before taking weight loss pills. If you’re already on the medications, a good rule of thumb would be to have yourself monitored by a qualified health professional while you are on the drugs. Follow-up regularly with your physician so that he or she can check if you are developing any side effects, and if the weight loss pill should be continued or stopped.
Weight Loss Program
Diet pills alone will not be able to provide you with effective and permanent weight loss. The intake of these weight loss pills must be combined with a healthy lifestyle in order to help you lose those pounds and keep them off. Most people who take diet pills but do not undergo lifestyle modification simply gain back the weight they lost once they stop taking the pills. In order to prevent this from happening, you must undergo changes in your lifestyle, which should include a balanced and healthy diet, a regular exercise plan and behavior modification. Studies have shown that combining the use of weight loss pills with these lifestyle changes will result in more weight loss than either lifestyle changes or medications alone. When combined, you can lose 5-10% of your original body weight in a year’s time, significantly reducing your risk of developing serious diseases.

Additionally, many modern foods contain excessive amounts of pesticides, antibiotics, artificial substitutes, growth hormones, and heavy metals.
How do you know what to eat? Suggestions on what and how much to eat can be confusing, especially when faced with varied and conflicting nutritional advice.

The foods that give life and energy to your cells are, fresh, living, raw, sprouting, and would rot if not consumed in a short period of time.
Daily supply of 20-30 grams of Fiber:

A sample of high-fiber foods—includes vegetables, beans, fruits, and whole grains.
Probiotics
These are the “good” bacteria or “microflora” that is vital in helping fight the “bad” bacteria present in our bodies. Supplements:
Immune System supplements are also needed because it is a challenge today to get sufficient nutrition from the foods we eat. The foods we eat are over-processed and void of many essential nutrients, grown in soils that have been over-planted and saturated with synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Vitamin and mineral deficiency subjects us to more aging, sickness, diseases, and the weakening of our immune system. The good news is that it is possible to obtain the nutrients our bodies need from good supplements found in selected foods, vitamins, minerals, and herbs.

Can All Low Carb Diets Improve Your Health?
January 25th, 2010Most people usually think of all low carb diets to help lose weight. Some low carbohydrate diets have even gotten a bad reputation. People are often surprised to hear that are many health benefits to low carbohydrate diets that are actually important. Low carbohydrate diets have been designed by doctors for health reasons!
All carbs break down into glucose. Our bodies don’t excel when provided with high volumes of simple or refined carbohydrates. One reason for this is these products do not contain enough fiber and convert too quickly into simple sugars in the body. If you are unable to utilize this extra energy, your body will store it as fat and finally triglycerides.
Triglycerides are the result of excess glucose – sugar. The concept of good carbs or bad carbs simply refers to how quickly your body breaks the carbs down into sugar. If you are eating a lot of carbs and not exercising, your triglycerides are going to go up. The way to get your triglycerides down is to go on your choice of all low carb diets, and get some exercise.
Eating too many simple or refined carbohydrates interferes with our body’s natural carbohydrate
metabolism, leading to an increase in insulin output,a condition called hyper-insulinism and insulin resistance. Many health issues, including heart disease, may result.

Quick Weight Loss Diets – How to Make Them Work
January 25th, 2010Quick weight loss diets are popular due to the faster initial weight loss they can achieve and they are less harmful and more beneficial. You lose weight fast during the initial stages, due to the net loss of water weight since protein and carbohydrates both help hold water in body cells. Quick weight loss diets are just a temporary solution and do not help you to make permanent changes to your eating habits.
Does this mean that quick weight loss diets don’t work? They do, but only when you understand the role that quick weight loss diets play in your overall lifestyle. The important thing before starting any diet regimen is to ask, “Can I do this for the rest of my life?” If the answer is no, then don’t try the diet; it will only harm you in the long run if you start a yo-yo cycle of weight “loss-gain-loss” again and again.
Quick weight loss diets are not intended for prolonged use. Although you may not notice a problem at first, your body will soon stop responding to the diet and the weight loss will reach a plateau. Quick weight loss diets, say professional dermatologists, often lack proper nutrition and rapid weight loss in itself can also trigger metabolism changes that affect hair growth. For the healthiest hair, physicians say that the best weight loss programs are reduced calorie diets that promote gradual weight loss and a healthy diet using foods from all the food groups.
Exercise and diet go hand in hand with a successful weight loss plan. Exercise should be enjoyable, otherwise you won’t continue. If you feel you don’t have time for anything, try jumping rope, or incorporate your exercise into something else you do, for example, if you work or live in a high rise building, take the stairs up and down. Exercising does you no good if you just go out and eat more when you are finished. Dieting is the first key to any truly successful weight loss, especially when you want to make sure that you not only get those pounds off, but that you keep them off, too.
Quick weight loss diets do work, but they work even better combined with regular sustained physical activity for forty-five minutes or more at least five days a week. Remember that it’s important to check with your physician if you have a substantial amount of weight to lose, if you have any type of health condition, and/or you do not exercise on a regular basis or are sedentary.
Eating breakfast every day is contrary to the typical pattern for the average overweight person who is trying to diet. Then they get hungry and consume most of their calories late in the day. Eating right using pre-planned recipes that incorporate foods that strengthen rather than weaken and bloat your system is critical. Successful dieting is about being prepared with proper quantities of healthy food in all situations. Eat regular meals 5 times a day but not much.
Strive to eat balanced and healthy meals while still controlling your caloric intake. In this way you will be more likely to maintain your weight loss instead of gaining back the pounds. Instead of high-fat products, lower fat options are recommended. These diets also generally include such things as whole grain foods, plenty of water, low-fat proteins and more.
One tip to immediately cut down your calorie intake is by reducing your normal food portion in half. In most cases, the serving sizes you get in restaurants and fast food joints are more than what you need. By reducing your portion size, you still get to enjoy your normal foods and cut down your calorie intake immediately!
Quick weight loss diets abound, both online and locally in your city. While local weight loss programs are generally more expensive than online programs, the face-to-face support may be exactly what you need to help you take off the excess weight.
Permanent lifestyle changes are the only way to remain at your target weight once you reach it. Quick weight loss diets will help you lose weight, just remember to do it right, the healthy way.
